LOS ANGELES, Calif. (January 11, 2017) – The Los Angeles Athletic Club has announced its John R. Wooden Award® Midseason Top 25 today on ESPNU. Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor, based on their performances during the first half of the 2016-17 season.

LEGENDS OF COACHING RECIPIENT

LOS ANGELES (October 11, 2016) – Muffet McGraw, University of Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Coach, will receive the John R. Wooden Award’s “Legends of Coaching” honor in 2017. Coach Wooden’s great grandson, John Impleman, was proud to announce his selection at the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s annual Wooden Award Tip-Off Luncheon. The luncheon features the head coaches from the Division I men’s basketball programs in Southern California. The “Legends of Coaching” honor recognizes coaches who exemplify Coach Wooden’s high standard of coaching success and personal integrity.

The stars of college basketball descended on Los Angeles tonight for one last celebration before putting the 2015-16 season to rest. The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy’s televised live on ESPN2 from The NOVO by Microsoft saw college basketball’s top players, coaches and Hall of Famers gather to honor the winners of eight prestigious end-of-season awards.

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 28, 2016) – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the 2016 John R. Wooden Award® All-Americans on a 30-minute show on ESPNU today (8 pm EDT). Selected by nearly 1,000 national college basketball media members and the Award’s former winners, the All-American team is made up of ten student-athletes who were the top vote-getters in the quest to earn college basketball’s most prestigious honor. The ten-player team consists of, alphabetically, Grayson Allen (Duke), Malcolm Brogdon (Virginia), Kris Dunn (Providence), Perry Ellis (Kansas), Yogi Ferrell (Indiana), Buddy Hield (Oklahoma), Brice Johnson (North Carolina), Georges Niang (Iowa State), Tyler Ulis (Kentucky), and Denzel Valentine (Michigan State). The five players who are invited to Los Angeles are Brogdon, Hield, Johnson, Ulis and Valentine.

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 28, 2016) – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the 2016 John R. Wooden Award® Women’s All-Americans on a 30-minute show on ESPNU. Selected by hundreds of national college basketball media members and the Award’s former winners, the All-American team is made up of five student-athletes who were the top vote-getters in the quest to earn college basketball’s most prestigious honor. The team consists of, alphabetically: Rachel Banham (Minnesota), Nina Davis (Baylor), Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut),  Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio State), Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), Kelsey Plum (Washington), Breanna Stewart (Connecticut), Morgan Tuck (Connecticut), Brianna Turner (Notre Dame) and A’ja Wilson (South Carolina). The five players that are invited to Los Angeles are Banham, Jefferson, Kelsey Mitchell, Stewart and Wilson. Stewart is the 2015 John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year and a three-time Wooden Award All-American.

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 25, 2016) –The John R. Wooden Award Committee today announced the seven outstanding Southern California high school basketball players who will be awarded the 2016 John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award: CIF Los Angeles City Section, Keith Fisher, Westchester High School (Los Angeles); CIF Southern Section Division I, Lonzo Ball, Chino Hills High School (Chino Hills); CIF Southern Section Division II, John Edgar, Ayala High School (Chino Hills); CIF Southern Section Division III, De’Anthony Melton, Crespi Carmelite High School (Encino); CIF Southern Section Division IV, Shacquille Dawkins., Bishop Alemany High School (Mission Hills); CIF Southern Section Division V, Cody Riley, Sierra Canyon High School (Chatsworth); CIF Southern Section Division VI, Cartrell Thompson, Price High School (Los Angeles).

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 5, 2016) – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the 2016 National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy’s® on ESPN College GameDay today. Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the list is comprised of 15 student-athletes who are candidates for the Wooden Award All-American Team and one shall receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the most outstanding college basketball player in the United States. All balloted players have proven to their universities that they are making progress towards graduation and are maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.
