Four 2017 Wooden Award All Americans headline list

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 5, 2018) - The Los Angeles Athletic Club has announced its John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy’s® Late Season Top 20 on espnW. Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the first half of the 2017-18 season, the list comprises of 20 student-athletes who are currently the front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor and the John R. Wooden Award All America Team.

Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the first half of the 2017-18 season, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the loss of Dick Enberg. Dick was the first emcee of the John R. Wooden Award and was helpful in its foundational base with Duke Llewelyn and Coach Wooden.

Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for college basketball’s most prestigious individual honor.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (November 14, 2017) – The John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy’s® announced the Women’s Preseason Top 30 on ESPN’s SportsCenter and ESPNW. The list is comprised of 30 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for college basketball’s most prestigious honor. The list is chosen by a preseason poll of national women’s college basketball media members. 

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 10, 2017) – Jay Wright, Villanova University Men’s Basketball Coach, will receive the John R. Wooden Award’s “Legends of Coaching” honor in 2018. Coach Wooden’s daughter Nan Wooden was proud to announce his selection at the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s annual Wooden Award Tip-Off Luncheon. The luncheon features the head coaches from the Division I men’s basketball programs in Southern California. The “Legends of Coaching” honor recognizes coaches who exemplify Coach Wooden’s high standard of coaching success and personal integrity.

Longtime Wooden Award Co-Chair Tommy Hawkins To Be

Remembered In Private Celebration at Los Angeles Athletic Club

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 13, 2017​​​​​) – Tommy Hawkins, longtime friend and co-chair of the annual John R. Wooden Award presentation, who passed away on August 16, 2017, will be remembered during a Celebration of Life at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The Hawkins Family requests that the Celebration of Life on October 4, 2017 be for their invited guests.
