Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma To Be Honored As 2012 John R. Wooden Award® “Legends Of Coaching” Recipient

Auriemma boasts seven NCAA titles, 100 percent graduation rate

LOS ANGELES (October 12, 2011) – University of Connecticut Head Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma will be presented with the John R. Wooden Award’s “Legends of Coaching” honor in 2012, Coach Wooden’s daughter, Nan Wooden, announced today at the annual Wooden Award preseason tipoff luncheon, held at The Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Maya Moore of Connecticut Wins Her Second John R. Wooden Award

One of the game’s greatest all-time players caps career with prestigious honor

Los Angeles (April 8, 2011)— Maya Moore of Connecticut was presented the John R. Wooden Award as the women’s collegiate basketball player of the year at The Los Angeles Athletic Club this evening. Mark Llewellyn, son of Wooden Award Co-Founder Richard “Duke” Llewellyn, made the announcement and conferred Moore with the Wooden Award trophy whose unique design was inspired by Coach Wooden’s idea of the “total basketball player.” The 35th annual Wooden Award is the first since the passing of both Coach Wooden and Duke Llewellyn in June of 2010.

BYU’S JIMMER FREDETTE WINS 35th ANNUAL JOHN R. WOODEN AWARD

Los Angeles (April 8, 2011)— The John R. Wooden Award, the preeminent men’s collegiate basketball player of the year award, was presented this evening at The Los Angeles Athletic Club by Coach John Wooden’s son, Jim, to Brigham Young senior Jimmer Fredette. Jim Wooden made the announcement and presented Fredette with the Wooden Award trophy whose unique design was inspired by Coach Wooden’s idea of the “total basketball player.” The 35th annual Wooden Award is the first since the passing of both Coach Wooden and Wooden Award co-founder Duke Llewellyn in June of 2010.

John R. Wooden Award All American Teams for 2011

Los Angeles (March 30, 2011)— The John R. Wooden Award Men’s and Women’s All American teams were announced today by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Selected to the women’s team were five players: 2009 Wooden Award winner Maya Moore of Connecticut; Gonzaga point guard Courtney Vandersloot; Baylor sophomore Brittney Griner; and Stanford’s duo of Jeanette Pohlen and Nnemkadi Ogwumike, who is a two-time selection.
