New College Basketball Awards Show to Honor the Season’s Top Players April 10 on ESPN2

  • Live one-hour program from Los Angeles features exclusive announcement of eight awards highlighted by the Wooden Award

 

ESPN will close out the 2014-15 college basketball season with a new one-hour awards show on Friday, April 10, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2. In coordination with the Los Angeles Athletic Club and Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, the first-ever College Basketball Awards Presented by Wendy’s program will celebrate the season’s top players and moments with the live announcement of eight awards.

Los Angeles (February 12, 2015)— The John R. Wooden Award announced the Women’s Late Season Top 20 today, a list comprised of 20 student-athletes who are the front-runners for college basketball’s most prestigious individual honor at roughly two-thirds of the way through 2014-15 season. The list is chosen by a poll of national women’s college basketball media members.

 Players not on the list are still eligible for next month’s ballot

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 11, 2015) --  For the first time, The Los Angeles Athletic Club has added a Late Season Top 20 in an effort to further narrow down the list of outstanding candidates for the 2015 John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy’s. This list of players was announced on ESPN.com today at Noon EST, and will be discussed in depth on ESPNU on a half-hour show airing tonight at 6:30 p.m. EST.

Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 25 student-athletes who are the frontrunners for the sport’s most prestigious individual honor based on their performances during the first half of the 2014-15 season.

Los Angeles (April 11, 2014)— The Los Angeles Athletic Club will present its first-ever Outreach Award to Michigan State senior basketball player Adreian Payne as part of the 38th Annual Wooden Award Gala presented by Wendy’s. The event also honors the Men’s and Women’s Wooden Award winners, and includes the presentation of the Wooden Award All American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award, this year given to Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer.

Two-time All American Caps Career With Nation’s Top Women’s Basketball Honor

Los Angeles (April 11, 2014)— The John R. Wooden Award®, the preeminent collegiate basketball player of the year award, was presented this evening at the Los Angeles Athletic Club by Coach John Wooden’s grandson, Craig Impelman, to Stanford University senior Chiney Ogwumike.  Impelman made the announcement and presented Ogwumike with the Wooden Award Trophy whose unique design was inspired by Coach Wooden’s ideal of the “total basketball player.”
