Tommy Hawkins, former Notre Dame and Los Angeles Lakers basketball star, former VP of the Los Angeles Dodgers, radio & TV broadcaster and popular personality has written a new book … poetry that is! Whomever you are, wherever you are, whatever your convictions, welcome to the eclectic world of Tommy Hawkins. The Los Angeles Athletic Club will host a special evening to meet and greet Tommy on Thursday, March 15 from 6 pm – 8 pm in the Main Lounge. Members and guests will be treated to a short presentation and then have an opportunity to purchase his book.
“Life’s Reflections: Poetry for the People” is a colorful coffee table book that can best be described as an eclectic collection of vernacular poetic narratives, full of insights and surprises. Each narrative is accompanied by a captivating painting or photograph that illustrates his words including works by famed artists LeRoy Neiman and Ernie Barnes among others.
Tommy promises readers won’t be bored. “There’s something for everyone in this book,” says Tommy. “There’s rhyme, meter, metaphor, symbolism and free verse. It is my hope that “Life’s Reflections: Poetry for the People” will be a dynamic, entertaining and uplifting experience for life. I cover a wide spectrum of topics including love, sports, psychiatry, travel, music, family, relationships, the 1960s and much more.”
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Tommy has enjoyed an incredible career as a college basketball All-American at Notre Dame, 10 years in the NBA playing ball with the Cincinnati Royals and Los Angeles Lakers (he played with Wilt, Jerry, Elgin, Oscar and many others), an Emmy Award-nominated radio and television broadcaster, event host and motivational speaker as well as Vice President for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 18 years.
